Resurrections and new starts are popular this week, goodbyes too. I thought that Sunday was a nice touch. A tease, for some cases. You just get it and its taken away--or, well, what you get wears out or wears off. Clothes, shoes, after they're gone you're still you, right? Somethings you have to settle on your own as far as death goes. I can only help so much. If you're still feeling down, stop by. I'm always around.

Spring is busting out all over! There's a whole mess of renewal outside your window in the earth. That green pops up like a jack-in-the-box, predictable but exciting to see. For me at least. Green's a great shade. That's why there's so much of it. I love the feel of grass between my toes. Don't you?

I'm not sure everyone affected by the curse this past Sunday would think it such a 'nice touch' as you. You seem inordinately cheery about it.

I guess I'm bias, Cain. I want people to enjoy life while they have it.

I'd thought it only a tease for those who endured it, and an painful one in some cases. I think it was difficult for them to enjoy it.

There's joy in unlikely places, happiness in sad places. I'd hope that even though it was painful there was goodness to enjoy. This too shall pass.

You know, I find you quite fascinating, but you're such an optimist that I then find we have very little in common, and that seems a shame.

I see you now and then. I never have time to stop for a spell. I'd like to think that we have a few things in common.

I'm surprised you don't see more of me, but perhaps I ought to count that as a mercy.

Perhaps a few things.

Mercy isn't me. You can say that though. I won't stop you.

It's my inaccurate opinion, then.

Would you call a footman, eternal or not, merciful for taking your hat and coat?

Date: 2009-04-16 04:14 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] misterblackbird.livejournal.com
No. More like 'useful', or even simply 'suited' to the task.

I think I like that comparison far more than mine.

That touches my standing. I also examine the coats, give little whispers to adjust hair. There I go on metaphors!

You have reason to feel otherwise. I hope that you don't take offense. The decisions aren't up to me alone.

I've taken no offense in the least. I only like your metaphors more than mine.

I've had practice. It passes the time.

There's enough poetry about you. It's only fair that you'd come up with some poetic turns of phrase yourself.

Green's a great shade when it comes on little pieces of paper with dead old farts printed on it.

In America, other countries make it look like a rainbow. City money looks like candy.

City money looks like Monopoly money. I feel like charging rent on Boardwalk every time I buy shit.

Is that true that you're still you after death? ...Not you specifically, since you are death.

I thought that nothing of an individual survives death. Maybe the dead are kept alive in some way in the form of memories, but once those memories die as well, there's nothing left. Am I wrong? The one time I left the City--there was nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Tell me I'm wrong and that there's more past death than nothing?

You are still you after death, Justin.

Ever see those gangster movies? They'd coin great terms, the big sleep is one of them. Nothing in a state of peace, in a state of absence is a way to go. What happens after I take you there, that is for you to determine. The last few times you've gone, there's been nothing right? What makes you so sure it will be the same every time?

Are you saying that the afterlife is what we make of it? If I decided to believe in God and heaven or whatever, would I go there? If I continue assuming that we completely cease to be after death, will I make that happen?

Right. ...I'm not sure that it will be the same every time, but what evidence I have indicates that that's likely.

I'm saying that you're more involved with your own fate than you think. The Judeo-Christian heaven is only significant to the Judeo-Christian people. How unfair it would be to go to a place that has no meaning for you? I can't tell you everything, I just hope that when all is said and done you've got more than nothing.

I don't know how great a standing evidence has after you've had a trip to a City that's no where in particular with people from all over.

You have a point. A very valid point.

Nothingness still seems like an inevitable destination.
